Otto milioni per rimettere a posto Villa dei Papi. Il protocollo d’intesa fra Comune di Benevento e Provincia di Benvento è stato firmato a Palazzo Mosti da Clemente Mastella e Nino Lombardi. Un risultato importante che restituisce alla città, quando sarà, uno dei luoghi simbolo del capoluogo sannita, una struttura fintogotica costruita alla Pacevecchia a partire dal 1696 dall’arcivescovo Orsini sulle rovine del Convento di Santa Maria della Pace, crollato per via del terremoto del 1688. Nel 2001 è stata acquistata congiuntamente dal Comune e dalla Provincia con finalità convegnistiche, poi fu sede del Marsec prima di entrare in un cono d’ombra dal quale si spera possa essere uscita definitivamente.
Otto milioni di euro – spiega il sindaco Clemente Mastella – per riqualificare uno spazio che abbiamo ereditato come un’area dimenticata, che non aveva più nessun valore nel contesto urbano, benché si tratti di un gioiellino. Al rione Pacevecchia generiamo così un polo di rigenerazione urbana mediante il binomio tra Villa dei Papi e la Casa di Jonas, la struttura per malati di Alzheimer e bimbi con la sindrome dello spettro autistico che è in via di conclusione con i fondi Pics. Questo, cioè la mobilitazione di risorse per la città e le idee per migliorarla, è l’unico film di cui siamo registi e attori principali”, ha spiegato il Sindaco.
Il presidente Lombardi ha plaudito all’iniziativa e ha annunciato che anche in materia di politiche culturali saranno rafforzate forme d’interazione con il Comune e in particolare ha ribadito l’intenzione di creare il Museo Egizio di Benevento.
